NORTH WEST BARTENDER TOASTS GREAT BRITISH SPIRIT

Joey Butcher winner of Greenalls NW cocktail competition

The UK’s longest established gin distillery Greenall’s has crowned Joey Butcher of Epernay, Manchester, its champion of great British spirit as he scooped the prestigious title of ‘Best Bartender’ in its first North West cocktail competition.

After weeks of scouring the region for the finest in Northern bartending talent, on Wednesday 21 March Joey demonstrated his cocktail flair with his winning cocktails ‘Greenall’s Cold Fusion’ and ‘Lizzy’s Vesper’, awarding him a £500 cash prize.

The competition, which took place in Manchester Malmaison’s exclusive Ember Lounge, saw ten bartenders from across the North West compete against one another in creating a unique twist on the royal favourite, G&T, plus create an entirely new long cocktail inspired by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – both using Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin.

The Greenall’s Cocktail Contest judged the final ten competitors on their presentation skills, mixing technique knowledge of Greenall’s gin and quality of their cocktail. Each cocktail demonstrated their creativity while complementing the traditional botanicals and fresh tasting notes of Greenall’s gin.

Joanne Moore, master distiller and custodian of the Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin recipe, was on the expert judging panel that crowned Joey the winner of the contest. Joanne said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to see first hand what creative skill and flair North West has to offer, something that is important to Greenall’s with its heritage laying firmly in the region.

“Joey’s cocktails demonstrated a clear connection with Greenall’s values and creatively complimented the distinctive taste of Greenall’s Gin in a unique way.

“Getting creative with gin is becoming increasingly popular and recognised in the on-trade, which is why it was important for Greenall’s to see what these bartenders could do. Working together in this way teaches one another what brilliant things we can do with gin when we put our minds to it.”

GREENALL’S SEARCH NORTH WEST FOR BARTENDERS WITH GREAT BRITISH SPIRIT
Warrington-based and the UK’s longest established gin distillery, Greenall’s, is scouring the North West to find bartenders with British spirit to compete in its first Cocktail Contest in the region.
Throughout March, Greenall’s will be asking the cream of Manchester’s cocktail talent to show their cocktail flair by serving a unique twist on the royal favourite, G&T, plus create an entirely new long cocktail inspired by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – both using Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin.
The top ten selected finalists will then be asked to showcase their cocktail making skills from 12-4pm on Wednesday 21st March at the Ember Lounge, Malmaison, Manchester. There, they will be placed in front of an expert judging panel before the gin’s master distiller, Joanne Moore, will crown the winner the North West Best Bartender and hand them a £500 cash prize.
The Greenall’s Cocktail Contest will judge the final ten competitors on their presentation skills, mixing technique knowledge of Greenall’s gin and quality of their cocktail. Each cocktail must demonstrate their creativity while complementing the traditional botanicals and fresh tasting notes of Greenall’s gin.
Joanne Moore, master distiller and custodian of the Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin recipe, said: “We are looking for someone with flair who can put together something truly unique to complement the distinctive taste of Greenall’s Gin while also recognising the Great British heritage of the spirit.
“This is a great opportunity for Manchester’s bartenders to demonstrate their skills in cocktail-making, creating something original with a gin that is becoming increasingly well known in the on-trade.
We are excited to see what talent comes forward from Greenall’s home region and it also gives us the chance to share what the spirit’s all about as well as collating an impressive menu of cocktails.”
