Since Thomas Dakin opened the first distillery on Bridge Street back in 1761, G&J Greenall has boasted the very finest equipment for production. The history of the distillery, however, has not been without drama. In 2005, fire very nearly destroyed the premises. Production was restored within just one week, as the Greenall's team, with tireless effort and skill, worked to save the ancient stills and reinstate the distillery.

Today the new distillery at Risley features the original copper stills rescued from the fire. These have been installed together with the very latest in modern technology: bottling lines that feature the latest automatic equipment capable of loading, filling, labelling, checking and packing over 1,200 dozen bottles per hour; and a purpose built warehouse complex that has a capacity of more than 6 million 9L cases per year, including extensive bonded storage.

Quality standards are paramount. They are maintained by implementing vigorous quality assurance systems. Standards that have been awarded include BRC Grade A, ISO 9001 and UKAS Lab accreditation.
